octavio vázquez-espinosa

mexican registered architect with international experience in leading architectural and urban projects across diverse scales. He has contributed to award-winning studios and is currently part of the team at Moshe Safdie Architects, where he works on complex, large-scale projects around the world. Prior to this, he worked with Mauricio Rocha, where he led key projects and oversaw their development from conceptual design through construction.

His professional background spans housing, hospitality, cultural, and urban planning developments, with an emphasis on thoughtful spatial strategies and material expression. Since 2018, Octavio has engaged in design competitions and built work that explores the intersections of architecture, urban design, territory, and infrastructure.

He approaches design through the lens of social and environmental justice, aiming to create meaningful spatial responses to the challenges of contemporary urban life.

octavio received his architecture degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). As part of his academic formation, he studied for one year in the Master of Architecture program at ETSASS in Spain. His thesis project, Post-Industrial Recycling, addressed issues of land use, affordable housing, and public space, earning a Merit Diploma for its design and research quality.

His current research focuses on adaptive reuse and the urban periphery, investigating their latent opportunities and the systemic challenges they pose in contemporary metropolitan contexts.
